There are numerous film locales on the Oregon coast. Indeed, the Oregon Film Trail, a unique network of markers at significant filming locations, aims to celebrate the state's rich film history. This trail connects communities, landmarks, and notable films, weaving together Oregon’s rich film legacy and celebrating over a century of filmmaking.

An oral history project is collecting narratives from locals who interacted with film crews. These stories will be part of the Trail, offering unique insights from a local perspective. With many iconic film projects in Oregon – including coast locations like Cannon Beach or Astoria - there are plenty of stories to uncover.

The Clatsop County Historical Society will help gather these stories for the Oregon Film Museum collection. They will be included in the statewide oral history database of the Oregon Film Trail, available for future visitors.

“If you have a story to share about a filming experience in Oregon, Oregon Film wants to hear from you,” said the Astoria-Warrenton Chamber of Commerce.” They are particularly interested in stories that highlight how being a part of a film production impacted your life, whether you worked on set, appeared as an extra, or provided goods or services to a production.”

To share your story, follow the link from the blog post here: https://www.oldoregon.com/blog/

Recording slots are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, ensuring a diverse range of stories. Once registered, you’ll be notified about the recording time and place.

According to the Oregon Film & Video Office, the Oregon coast connection to celluloid goes back all the way to 1908 with "The Fisherman's Bride" in Astoria. That is the first film on record to be made here. What Movies Were Filmed on Oregon Coast? A Massive List

Parts of "Point Break," starring Keanu Reeves, were made in Cannon Beach and Wheeler. Until the 2000's, there was an antique shop in Wheeler that had an autographed photo of Reeves on the wall, signed to the owner, calling her "Mom.” "The Temp" came out of this area in the early '90s as well.

Astoria saw a golden age of filming starting in the '80s. "Short Circuit," both "Free Willy" movies, "Kindergarten Cop," "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III" and of course, "Goonies" are part of this town's history now. Parts of "Goonies" were made in Cannon Beach. Part of the first “The Ring” was shot in Astoria as well as "The Ring II."

The latest to be filmed in the Astoria area is The Cycle, a horror flick by Jordan Downey - which happened late last year. See Brooding Horror Flick The Cycle Being Filmed at N. Oregon Coast's Astoria
