Former Portland Music Icon Carothers Returns to Oregon Coast
(Newport, Oregon) - Former Portland music icon Craig Carothers will return to the central Oregon coast and this time he is bringing his friend, Grammy-award winner Don Henry. The frontman of the legendary Portland band The Nerve is now nationally known for his own songwriting and performs November 13 at the Yaquina Bay Yacht Club, 750 SE Bay Boulevard in Newport. The show begins at 7 p.m.
General admission is $10 in advance; $12 at the door. Advance tickets are available now through the Writers On The Edge website: http://www.writersontheedge.org.
Craig Carothers, a highly charismatic and engaging entertainer, was the featured author at the July 2009 Nye Beach Writers' Series event, where he performed and spoke about the craft and business of the songwriting profession. His humor and honesty captivated the audience so much it was difficult to end the show. So, Carothers has been invited back for an encore.

On Craig Carothers' fall 2009 tour of the Pacific northwest, he will be accompanied by his friend and songwriting collaborator, Don Henry.
Henry, originally from California, moved to Nashville in 1979 where he worked himself up from "go-fer" to a staff songwriting position, and finally to independent writer, publisher, producer, and engineer. His songs have been recorded by Ray Charles, Patti Page, Conway Twitty, and Highway 101; country crooners such as Gene Watson, The Oak Ridge Boys, John Conlee, B.J. Thomas, Blake Shelton, and Lonestar. Kathy Mattea's Grammy Award-winning version of "Where've You Been," won Henry (and co-writer Jon Vezner) Song Of The Year honors from the Academy of Country Music, Country Music Association, and Nashville Songwriters Association International. "Where've You Been" was the first song to be awarded all four honors in the same year.
Billboard magazine chose Henry's debut album "Wild In The Backyard" as one of 1991's Top Ten records. So did BAM magazine. Rolling Stone liked it enough to profile Henry in their "New Faces" column. Enthusiastic reviews also appeared in Entertainment Weekly, Stereo Review, the Gavin Report, and other major daily newspapers. Since then, Henry has released a live album recorded at the internationally famous Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Tennessee, on the American Originals label. His other albums include "Flowers & Rockets," and "Based On A True Story."
Craig Carothers' musical journey began in his home city of Portland, Oregon. Venues were plentiful and Craig spent more than 20 years playing almost every night of the week inside a forty-block radius of his home. Armed with a sly wit and scintillating turn of a phrase, Carothers developed a following in Portland and all over the Northwest. His wry humor and intimate relationship with his audience make his performances particularly appealing.
In 1995, country music star Trisha Yearwood recorded Carothers' song "Little Hercules," which went gold and he started traveling to Nashville on regular basis. A publishing deal with Nashville-based Crossfire Entertainment/Almo Irving Music followed. Soon, he had regular gigs in Nashville, Birmingham, Atlanta, Houston, and Little Rock. That same year Carothers won the Napa Valley Music Festival's Emerging Songwriter Showcase, and the Austin Songwriters Contest. In 2000, he made Nashville his home.
In recent years, Carothers' songs have been recorded by Kathy Matea, Lorrie Morgan, Sons Of The Desert, Kate Markowitz, Andrea Zonn, Steve Seskin, Berkley Hart, and Peter, Paul and Mary. Carothers is now touring in support of his most recent CDs, "Solo," and "Nothing Fancy." For more information, visit www.craigcarothers.com.
