There is a new opportunity to pig out on crab: the fresh stuff coming straight off south Oregon coast crabbing boats. The Annual Charleston Crab Feed 2025 gets underway on February 8 at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (OIMB) in Charleston, the charming little village by the sea neighboring Coos Bay.

It is the 40th year of the Charleston Crab Feed, started way back in the day-glo age of the '80s. These days, it serves up some 900 pounds of crab each event, and for the last few years 700 to 900 people attend over the course of the day, according to organizers.

All that grub is crammed into four hours: from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The dinners range from a half crab meal ($22) to a full crab meal ($35). You can purchase tickets here (see events link) with a fee or at the door. You can get to-go packs as well.

Those yummy Dungeness are actually purchased from Charleston crabbers. From the boats to the docks, it then is processed by Chuck's Seafood, again keeping the dollars local and the crustaceans fresh. The local group Charleston Fishing Families is serving up dessert, with those treats donated by them to the festival. All proceeds from the desserts benefit that organization.

For those who don't like seafood, the Charleston Crab Feed also has your ticket: there are gourmet hotdogs available for purchase at $14.

It is primarily a fundraiser for the Charleston Visitors Center. The event provides bucks to support other activities that promote the Charleston community, according to Oregon's Adventure Coast, the visitors group which oversees tourism in the Coos Bay / Charleston / North Bend area.

Assisting that goal is the raffle drawing. South Oregon coast businesses provide unique items, which are later raffled off at the end of the event. According to organizers, past items up for grab included an array of locally-focused t-shirts, gift certificates for various marinas, gift items from unique local stores, even charters for fishing trips; and foods like cranberry sweets, fast food restaurants and more.

Most years, there is that giant crab out front greeting visitors upon entrance.

Also on hand are reps from South Slough Estuary and the Oregon Crab Commission.

The Charleston Crab Feed takes place at 63466 Boat Basin Road, Charleston, Oregon. See the events link
