Central Oregon Coast Town Sizzles In Winter

(Newport, Oregon) - Between the Oregon Coast Aquarium and the wild wonders of Newport's beaches, bars and entertainment scene, this part of the central coast is just a little bonkers with stuff to do as the region slowly rambles into springtime. Come April, Depoe Bay starts to pick up the pace as well.

February 14. Valentine's Day Sea Lion Encounter. Learn about the Aquarium’s pinnipeds, get a sea lion kiss from Lea and explore behind the scenes at the aquarium. Nye Beach's Murder Mystery Weekend features all sorts of skullduggery fun.

March 14 & 15. Nye Beach Murder Mystery Weekend. Sixth Annual Mystery Weekend is an interactive event that begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Performing Arts Center. Mystery Packets may be purchased for $5 and suspects will be introduced and the particulars of this crime will be shared. Suspects will be available at Nye Beach business locations until 5 p.m. so "sleuths" may interview them and also collect clues in their effort to solve the mystery. March 21. Blessing of the Fleet. What began as an old world Sicilian custom took over Newport’s Yaquina Bay in the 50’s. Participating ministers are members of the local churches.
