Oregon Coast in 2011: Most Memorable Photos from Newport, Depoe Bay Published 01/06/2012 (Depoe Bay, Oregon) – 2011 found a horde of unbelievable moments caught on camera in and around Depoe Bay and Newport, between the stellar weather of the summer and its extraordinary sand level events, and then the runs of lovely, dry weather in late fall. According to reactions on Oregon Coast Beach Connection's Facebook page, this esoteric scene above in Newport's Yaquina Bay may have created the most buzz. At night, the bay lights up in interesting colors, and at this moment a fishing boat begins its entrance beneath the famed bridge. The whole scene had a kind of Steven Spielberg vibe. One of the most popular photos of the year according to the Facebook reactions was this colorful gem taken at Gleneden Beach, just a couple miles from Depoe Bay. Another favorite from the same night happened in Depoe Bay itself, where the sunset became exceptionally purplish. At the north end of Depoe Bay sits this somewhat mystical hidden spot, where rocky cliffs cause the waves to do some amazing things. One of the most amazing sights of the summer was increased access to the Devil's Punchbowl, between Depoe Bay and Newport. Because of extra high sand levels, you could do a lot of things you can't normally do on the coast, like get inside this usually-swirling cauldron of oceanic madness. Agate Beach at Newport – both night and day – provided some especially stunning images. Extremely popular with a wide range of audiences was this esoteric oddity from atop Cape Foulweather at night, with the stars swirling above the ocean in a hazy but striking shot that took about 12 minutes in exposure time. One of the most shared photos of the whole year on Oregon Coast Beach Connection's Facebook page was this one below of the lighthouse at Yaquina Head in Newport. Lighthouses are always a crowd favorite it seems.
