The warning area contains all of Clatsop and Tillamook counties as well as the south Washington coast, including the towns of Ocean Park, Long Beach, Tokeland, Astoria, Warrenton, Seaside, Cannon Beach, Manzanita, Rockaway Beach, Garibaldi, Oceanside and Pacific City.

“South winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected at beaches and headlands,” the NWS said. “Gusts up to 45 mph for inland communities.”

It's a short burst, however, lasting only through 2 a.m. Saturday. Calmer winds more like the usual coastline return for the weekend.

Still, taking caution tonight is a good idea, although stormy weather out here is part of the adventure.

“A High Wind Warning for the coastal headlands and beaches means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring in those areas along the immediate coast,” the NWS. “Many of the headland areas and beaches are vulnerable to very strong wind gusts that may pose a safety hazard for individuals or high profile vehicles. The strong winds may also cause property damage. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more are expected in those areas. Coastal headlands are characterized by high, rocky shores and steep sea cliffs.”

Winds like this can make driving difficult, the NWS said. High profile vehicles could especially have issues.

According to NWS the rest of the weekend forecast is:

“Saturday: Showers. High near 60. South wind 5 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Sunday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 57. Breezy, with a southwest wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.” MORE STORM PHOTOS BELOW
