(Florence, Oregon) – A wide range of art is now showing at the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce’s visitors center and art gallery, displaying what they call inspirational art. Some of it is local art created by those on the central Oregon coast, and there are some regional and select national artists gracing the facility's walls. Look for mixed media, archival prints, paintings and even wearable art.
At the center of this central Oregon coast display is Serene Abundance Studio of Florence, which is providing the exhibit. It runs through at least the end of November.
“The mission of our Studio Gallery, and this exhibit, is to show visitors what's possible when art is used in the service of healing, personal growth, and inspiration,” said studio owner Serena Appel. “For example, in addition to several local and regional artists in display, there is on display right now at the Chamber striking black and white canvases by Rachel Rusenko of Portland, that reference nature, the beauty of abstract shape and heritage, plus elements of design from her Moroccan heritage.”
Several pieces in the exhibit are for sale.
Appel is a licensed professional counselor, fine artist, and creative writer who works in the creative arts therapies in the central Oregon coast town. The Studio Gallery serves as a home base for her private practice and personal art space, as well as a community oriented and inclusive space for a variety of classes, events, workshop rental, and exhibitions. Over the past few years, the studio has become a hub for a network of local artists, community stakeholders, and fellow creative healers.
Serene Abundance, in business since 2018, is at1790 Highway 101, Florence, Oregon (corner of 18th and 101 by Teresa's Sunrise Espresso). Their gallery is open Thursday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Other hours are available by appointment only. 541-590-3877 www.sassflo.com.
Appel holds a BFA from Columbia College, Chicago, IL and a master’s in art therapy/counseling from Marylhurst University, near Portland, Oregon. She has sold and exhibited work across the U.S. and in Europe. She has had a long history of involvement with community arts projects.
“The Studio community is grateful to the Chamber and the Visitor Center staff for hosting such a distinctive and welcoming space for local arts. It helps convey the heart and soul of Florence,” says Appel.
The Chamber’s visitor center is at 290 Highway 101 in Florence.
