(Seaside, Oregon) – An interesting mixed bag of weather is coming to the Oregon coast and Washington coastline tonight and throughout this week, as well as good chunks of the western halves of both states. A freeze warning hits most everything from the Cascades westward on Tuesday night through Wednesday morning, from about Eugene up to a bit beyond Vancouver, Washington. Overnight temps will be at around 32 degrees, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), bringing on some frozen plant issues. (Above: South Beach, Newport - Oregon Coast Beach Connection)
Yet it's going to be very sunny along the coastlines of Oregon and Washington for the next few days, with daytime highs lingering up around the upper 60s on Friday.
You'll have to watch your plants but this is also a good week to play hooky from work and hit the beaches.
A freeze warning was issued by the NWS for the southern part of Washington's I-5 corridor over through the Willapa Hills, as well as down through Portland, McMinnville, Silverton, Detroit, Lebanon, Corvallis and into Oakridge.
“Widespread frost is expected across all of northwest OR and southwest WA Tuesday night/Wednesday morning as temperatures dip into the low to mid 30s for most locations,” the NWS said. “However, temps will dip into the upper 20s across the Upper Hood River Valley where a Freeze Warning is in effect.”

However, for the majority of coastal towns in that stretch – from Florence up through Raymond – it's more of a frost advisory that's in effect from the same period of late Tuesday night through early Wednesday morning.
“Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation,” the NWS said. “Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered. Temperatures of 33 to 35 deg, along with light winds and clear skies, will result in frost formation.”

Those clear skies, however, mean some exceptionally warm days at times. Mostly, highs in beach towns are in the 50s and 60s, but Friday will get to the upper 60s for some areas, especially Cannon Beach, Seaside, Astoria and the Long Beach Peninsula. It's still sunny and bright on the south Oregon coast through the week as well, for areas like Coos Bay or Port Orford, and daytime highs reach close to or just above 60 later in the week.
“After a cool start on Wednesday, should be a rather pleasant day, with highs warming into the mid and upper 50s along the coast, and lower to middle 60s across interior lowlands east of the Coast Range and Willapa Hills,” the NWS said.
Waves out there will be quite calm, which makes this good conditions to go looking for whales – especially as orcas have been seen quite a bit in the last week or so.
