(Portland, Oregon) - UPDATED: DANGEROUS SURF CONDITIONS THIS WEEKEND. --- A frost advisory for tonight is in effect over the majority of northwestern Oregon, including the Coast Range lowlands near the beaches. In effect until 9 a.m. Friday, the National Weather Service (NWS) is saying temps will drop to 33 and create frost, mostly in valley and Gorge areas like Hood River, Salem, Eugene, Corvallis, Hillsboro, Lebanon, Molalla, Sherwood, Stayton, Silverton and Boring. Portland and beach towns like Seaside, Newport or Manzanita are just outside of the frost areas.
However, the good news is that quite a warm streak is on its way for the weekend, but on the flipside of that there are surf advisories on the beaches.
Most at risk tonight (Thursday) will be plants, but also anyone spending a good deal of time outdoors in the overnight hours.
“Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation,” the NWS said. “Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered.”

Temps then skyrocket on Friday for these areas, creating some dreamy conditions for the Oregon coast but also those just hanging out in the inland portions of the state.

“Drier and increasingly warm daytime temperatures through Saturday,” the NWS said.

Temps in many valley regions like Portland climb into the seventies on Friday and Saturday, while the coastline will get into the 60s. Areas of the valley could break 75, especially Portland with its heat island effect.
“Coastal areas will remain more mild as they retain a marine layer influence through Saturday,” the NWS said. “Afterwards, temperatures drop as we see a pattern change back to showery seasonable weather on Sunday.”
However, the beaches have some surf advisories over the weekend due to some large wave action.
