(Yachats, Oregon) - The Wine Place in Yachats - on the central Oregon coast - is celebrating summer and announces a full slate of free wine tasting events for July. All events take place on Saturday, except for one that happens on Sunday, July 4 – for those wanting a little more red and white with their blue for the day. All events take place 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 3. Maryhill Winery. Located in Goldendale, Washington, Maryhill Winery opened in 2001 and is now the 15th largest winery in Washington. It was named 2009 “Winery of the Year” by Wine Press Northwest, and it produces 19 varietals, 27 award-winning wines, and has an 80,000 case production. Meet distributor Ross Rehberg for a tasting that includes Chardonnay, Muscat, Rose and Sangiovese.
July 4. August Cellars. After the Yachats Parade at noon, you want to saunter in for wine tasting. August Cellars is a family owned winery created in 2002 on Chehalem Mountain land bought by Clarence Schaad in 1942. The winery produces about 2,500 cases per year. Tom Schaad is always a favorite visitor at The Wine Place. There will be music outside on the deck – Chris Lauer with guitar and vocals. All tasting wines will be available to purchase by the glass. July 10. Nuthatch Cellars. Nuthatch Cellars was founded by John Bacon and Jane Smith, now a tiny artisan winery in Corvallis. Their first vintage was 2004, and they are committed to excellence through hands-on production of small lot, full bodied red varietals and blends. Their total production is less than 400 cases per year – they cork and label each bottle by hand. It is their first tasting at The Wine Place.
July 17. Pudding River Wine Cellars. Located in the heart of the East Willamette Valley, Pudding River Wine Cellars is a family operated vineyard and winery producing small-lot, boutique styled wines. Pudding River wines have been recognized by Wine Spectator, Oregon State Fair, Northwest Wine Competition, and the Portland Indie Wine Festival. Get up close and personal with owner/winemaker Sean Driggers and sample his award-winning wines. July 24. Oregon Sampler. This special tasting features five special wines: J. Daan Wine Cellars Syrah and Pinot Noir, Capitello Wines Sauvignon Blanc and Dolcino, and Trust Cellars Riesling. Meet distributor Amy Paul. Amy attended La Cordon Bleu in Ottawa, Canada where she received “Le Grand Diplome.” She lived in Ireland where she owned and operated a bakery. She was a wine reviewer with Avalon Wines in Corvallis, and is currently working towards her Food & Wine Pairing Certificate with South Seattle Community College. Amy will have great food and wine pairing advice for you.
July 31. Oregon Sampler. Another varied lineup on the tasting counter with these taste treats is in store: Apolloni Vineyards Pinot Blanc and Riesling, Lumos Pinot Gris, Opine Cellars Chukar Ridge Red, and Territorial Vineyards Pinot Noir. Meet distributor Denise Wallace, who represents both Small World Wine Company and Triage Wines. Denise has an extensive food and wine background in Eugene that includes restaurant experience, tasting rooms, and event coordination, and has worked in wholesale wine sales for the past nine years. She brings a unique perspective to the shared tasting experience.
