Conditions Cancel Mega Flag Kite on Oregon Coast; Rest of Festival Continues Published 06/26/2015 at 5:34 PM PDT (Lincoln City, Oregon) – Wind and weather conditions have caused the cancellation of one big kiting event on the Oregon coast today, but the rest of Kite Festival in Lincoln City continues as planned over the weekend. The Lincoln City Visitor and Convention Bureau, in partnership with Gomberg Kite Productions, Int. LLC have canceled the Mega Flag, the world's largest kite, which was scheduled to fly. "Unfortunately, conditions are not right for the flag to fly", says Jim Martin, safety coordinator representing Gomberg Kite Productions International, Inc. "It is a shame that we have to do this on such short notice, but the flag cannot fly in these current conditions." Martin, who is in charge of coordinating the Mega Flag's appearances around the world, made the call after making his final evaluation of the site where the kite would launch at the D-River Wayside in Lincoln City. This would have marked the first time that the Mega Flag would fly on the Pacific Coast. Due to unforeseeable conditions, that will not happen. But every cloud has a silver lining, and the Summer Kite Festival will resume as scheduled on June 27 and 28. The Kite Festival takes place in the heart of Lincoln City, Oregon at the D-River Wayside State Park on June 27th and 28th. Help celebrate this year's theme by wearing your red, white, and blue attire at this hallmark event. Festival activities, including professional kite demonstrations, kids kite making, and the Running of the Bols, which is a footrace across the beach with each participant harnessed to parachute kites, are fun for the whole family. Big show kites will be flying throughout the day, weather conditions permitting. On both days of the festival, kids of all ages can learn how to make their own paper kite and afterword they can show off their colorful creations in the kids' parade. All kids attending the festival will receive a free passport to the event. Collect autographs in the passport from each of the featured fliers and earn great prizes. The festival runs from 10am to 4pm each day. For the schedule of events or more information on the Summer Kite Festival visit www.oregoncoast.org.
