Winners in Oregon Coast Memory Contest Announced Published 02/05/2010
(Newport, Oregon) - The Destination Newport Committee recently ran a contest on the Discover Newport website called the Newport Memory Derby. People could submit a story, video, photo or combination of these about their favorite Newport memory. The contest ran from September through December 31st. The winning entries were selected at a recent Destination Newport meeting. The grand prize was awarded to Shaunna Romero from Wyoming for a story submission. Her submission was entitled “Wyoming Girl,” and the group found to be a genuine and fun look at Shaunna’s memory of Newport - and her hope to live here someday. Shaunna won a “Flip” video digital camcorder, two roundtrip SeaPort Airlines tickets from anywhere that SeaPort flies to Newport from, a two night-stay at The Whaler Hotel in Newport, dinner for two at Mo’s, two passes to the Oregon Coast Aquarium and a Marine Discovery Tours Sea Life Cruise for two. Second place was awarded to Nate Schipper from Colorado for a photo submission which the group felt captured Newport beautifully. Nate won a one-night stay at the Hallmark Resort in Newport, two passes to the Oregon Coast Aquarium, dinner for two at Mo’s, and a gift basket of Newport goodies. Third place was awarded to Pamela Olson of Hillsboro Oregon for a story called “The Ocean Yielded it’s Treasure,” which was a touching reflection of the writer’s visit to Newport in the 60’s and finding a glass float on the beach - which she still has today. Pamela won two passes to the Oregon Coast Aquarium and dinner for two at Mo’s.
