Murder Mystery Fest on Central Oregon Coast

(Newport, Oregon) – On March 13, there will be a murder in the Nye Beach neighborhood of Newport – and local businesses will be extremely pleased.

March 13 and 14 are thes date for this year’s Nye Beach Murder Mystery Weekend, as locals will stage a murder and visitors will investigate “who dunnit.” Each year, around 100 people gather in the historic district of this coastal town, collecting clues from various businesses and asking questions of actors/suspects dressed in period garb.

This year’s mystery is “Barnie in the Rubble,” taking place in 1985. It centers around the murder of a Portland lawyer named Barnie, who was found in rubble at the bottom of a cliff.

Things begin on Saturday, March 13, as participants pay $5 for the packet containing directions, picked up between 10 a.m. and noon at Nye Cottage, 208 NW Coast Street, Nye Beach, Newport. Clues are then collected from local businesses until 5 p.m.

Interrogate suspects at participating clue locations from noon until 5 p.m. Participants then turn in “solutions” of who, when, why, how by 6 p.m. Saturday at Nye Cottage.

Sunday, March 14 is the big reveal, where the suspect is named – and the prizes to be given to the winning investigators. The time and place for the reveal will be announced on Saturday.
