Major Mushroom Fest Set for Yachats, Central Coast Published 10/04/2012 (Yachats, Oregon) – For three days in the third weekend of October, it will be non-stop waxing on about the wonders of the wild mushroom. The small central Oregon coast town goes maniacal about the mushroom on October 19 to 21 with the Yachats Mushroom Fest, going on for over ten years now to ecstatic and ever-increasing crowds. Munch on the mushroom in a variety of dishes in restaurants all around the village, or take in talks, exhibits, art workshops and even guided tours that look at the little fungi. (Above: near Yachats) There's also a mushroom culinary market, culinary classes and a large array of wine tastings and live music, as Yachats literally celebrates this minor morsel in a big way. Among the highlights include the Wild Things! program, which features music, mushrooms, wine and desert at the Yachats Commons on Friday, October 19. Music is performed by Oregon coast guitarist Tony Kaltenberg, who has a style in the tradition of Michael Hedges or John Fahey.
