Oregon Coast Calendar: Newport Events In May,
Summer
(Newport,
Oregon) - The central Oregon coast is about to hit high gear. May sees
a bundle of events descend upon the town known as the "Dungeness
Crab Capital of the World." But there’s much more to do than
seafood in Newport, with a variety of music, theater, literary and outdoor
events. There’s also a nifty beer fest with a decidedly canine bent,
a highway cleanup and some fascinating science events at the Hatfield
Marine Science Center.
Oregon Coast Aquarium hosts a ton of events for families,

April 30 - May 3. 53rd annual Newport Loyalty Days
& Sea Fair Festival. Festivities include the Queen’s
Coronation, Davis Show carnival, cars shows, Vietnam Vet’s annual
Memorial Reading of the Names, Veteran’s of Oregon Honorable Service
Medal ceremonies, 1000 Field of Flags, benefit concert featuring "Blue
Eyed Soul" and other activities. Annual patriotic parade: Saturday,

14. Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble. The community concert band of
the central Oregon Coast is presently composed of about 35 enthusiastic
musicians from Toledo, Newport, South Beach, Walport, Ten Mile, and Florence.

May 15 –17. Rogue Ale’s 3rd Annual Brewer’s
Memorial Ale Fest. Will benefit the Central Coast Humane Society
and Oregon Coast Therapy Animals. Includes 30+ Microbreweries, Live Music,
Doggy Musical Chairs, Dog Wash, Dog Dancing and Celebrity dog look-alikes.
Friday: 4 p.m. - 10 p.m., Saturday: noon - 10 p.m., Sunday: noon - 4 p.m.
$10 admission fee gets you a Festival Mug and 3 taster tickets. Rogue

16. Nye Beach Writers Series: Claudia Handler and John Witte.
Handler is the author of the poetry collection "Going Under",
and co-director of the Valley Contemporary Poets. John Witte is author
of "Loving the Days, "The Hurtling" and "Second Nature".

May 16. Volunteer For Highway Clean-up.
Newport Chamber of Commerce Beautification Committee along with the City
of Newport will have a monthly highway clean-up between March and September.

May 30. Newport Marathon. Starting in
Yaquina Bay State Park at the historic "haunted" lighthouse,
runners head north along the ocean through some of Newport's picturesque

May 30. ''The Rocketeer''. A whiz-bang
