(Portland, Oregon) – With Portland, Corvallis and Salem still expecting snow later Saturday, the Oregon Coast Range and the southern Washington Coast Range are under a winter weather advisory, in effect from 10 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday. Caution is urged while driving the passes to and from the beach, which includes Highway 26, Highway 6 and Highway 18. Farther down, Highway 20 and all coast range passes south of there are not under such advisories.

The southern Oregon coast, however, is under a beach hazards watch at this time, through late Saturday, because of high tidal and sneaker wave conditions.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued these watches and alerts, saying mixed precipitation is expected on the northern half of the Oregon Coast Range.

“Total snow accumulations will range from little to nothing farther south to one to three inches along the east slopes of the north Oregon Coast Range,” the NWS said. “Ice accumulations will be most prevalent in the north Oregon Coast Range, but some patches of ice accumulations of a tenth of an inch will be possible elsewhere. Wind gusts of 35 mph across the higher terrain.”

The NWS said to be careful in Washington’s Willapa Hills, the South Washington Cascade Foothills and their counterparts in Oregon.

The NWS offered driving advice:

Slow down and use caution while traveling.

Along the Oregon coast and southern Washington coast, a fair amount of rain is forecast on the beaches through Sunday night, with lows much warmer than inland at around 42 degrees. Monday and Tuesday become mostly sunny, and the rest of the week returns to rain and cloudy skies.
