Portland, Inland Oregon, Coast Get Some Nasty, Wet Weather Published 03/13/2015 (Oregon Coast) – A major deluge is coming for western Oregon, from the mountains to the valley, to the coast – bringing huge amounts of rain. Some areas will be getting as much as three inches, even five inches. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Portland said much of the state will be poured upon over the weekend. It's the first significant rain event in a while, bringing three to five inches in the mountains and coast range, and even close to three inches in valley towns like Portland and Salem. The ocean beaches may get between two and three inches of rain, while the just off the Oregon coast there are small craft warnings and gale warnings. Sizable seas will develop on Saturday, getting up to about 15 feet in height, and some winds at 40 miles per hour. This could mean some nice storm watching on the coast, however. Timing for all this will be late tonight as heavy rains kick in overnight, with the worst on Saturday and still some sizable stormy conditions on Sunday. “A slow moving frontal boundary with a connection to subtropical moisture will move onshore early Saturday and stall over the region through the weekend,” the NWS said in a bulletin. “This will bring periods of rainfall, heavy at times.” Along with the rain, gusty winds are coming in Saturday morning, with the strongest forecasted to affect the southern Washington coast, the Oregon coast and coast range. Gusts may reach up to 50 mph for the beaches. For the Oregon coast waters, the NWS had some warnings and advisories. “Early Saturday will bring gusty winds and choppy seas through Saturday night,” the NWS said. “Unsettled weather continues Sunday into Monday with the possibility of a low pressure system moving in off the Oregon coast.” Winds in the Portland area don't appear to be exceeding ten miles an hour over this rainy period.
