(Astoria, Oregon) – Look for some lane closures and certainly a fair amount of roadwork during the weekdays around Astoria as parts of the area get some signage, including the bridges. (Photo of Astoria-Megler Bridge courtesy Angi D Wildt Gallery)

Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) recently announced January 2025 will see some more work along this part of the north Oregon coast, as signs along US 101, US 101B, the Old Youngs Bay Bridge, New Youngs Bay Bridge and the Astoria-Megler Bridge get replaced.

“Some of the signs along U.S. 101 and U.S. 101B are worn and outdated,” ODOT said in a release. “We're replacing the damaged signs with new ones that meet current standards. We're planning to start on the Old Youngs Bay Bridge, then move to the Astoria-Megler Bridge followed by the New Youngs Bay Bridge.”

Work along these stretches starts in January. Expect some minor lane closures and closures on the shoulders as work is being done Sunday through Friday – which means not on the busy weekends. Crews will be working during the day and night on these projects. Flaggers will be helping direct traffic as needed.

Along 101, work will be done from milepost 0 to 3.8 and milepost 4.6 to 5.2. On 101B it will happen milepost 5.7 to 7.1.

Both U.S. 101 and U.S. 101B are heavily traveled highways in Astoria and Warrenton.

“These new signs will help make the area safer, making it easier for drivers to know the speed limit, see upcoming landmarks and destinations,” ODOT said.

There is also still some work being done in Lincoln City on the central Oregon coast, redoing curbs to make them ADA accessible. Curb ramps are being installed in various areas periodically. Garibaldi still has such curb work going on as well.

Some paving is happening on U.S. 101 just south of Newport and the Ben Jones Bridge near Depoe Bay has work remaining to be done.

All of these could result in some lane closures for a time.
