Snow Coming to North Oregon Coast Published 02/17/2011 (Cannon Beach, Oregon) – The National Weather Service (NWS) has predicted some amount of snow to hit the north Oregon coast and southern Washington coast, just as much of the state has been experiencing freezing conditions in the morning and snow levels dropping substantially. The NWS and some Portland television weather forecasters say the best chance for snow throughout the state is on the north coast on Friday. Temperatures in the Portland and Willamette Valley area as well as the coast are expected to drop below freezing overnight, but the inland area will remain dry while precipitation on the coast may result in snow. “Accumulations of one to three inches could occur tonight through Friday morning,” the NWS said. Precipitation is expected to decrease Friday as a cold low pressure system continues to dive south, after coming here from southern Canada. The NWS said snow is not a positive along the Oregon coast, and exactly where it would dust the beaches is not entirely certain. “The coastal areas could receive minimal precipitation if the storm stays far enough offshore,” the NWS said. If the main band of the storm stays closer to Oregon’s coastline, then snowfall will occur. The brunt of this system is not expected to wander inland and will likely stay just offshore, hence the prediction of snow. Affected cities would be Long Beach, Washington, Astoria, Cannon Beach, Seaside, Manzanita, Nehalem, Wheeler, Rockaway Beach, Gariabaldi and as far south as Tillamook and Oceanside. Central coast areas like Pacific City, Lincoln City, Depoe Bay, Newport or Yachats are not in the crosshairs of this snowfall possibility. Oregon Coast Weather here.
