(Newport, Oregon) – Some Oregonians will now be able to get into Oregon Coast Aquarium (OCA) at a substantial discount. Those enrolled in some benefit programs may now qualify to get the aquarium at a discounted admission rate – about 50 percent off, the Newport-based facility just announced in recent weeks.

The aquarium’s spokesman, Courtney Klug, said that visitors who are in eligible Oregon programs can purchase up to four half-price tickets. They must simply present photo ID and documented proof that they are registered in one or more of the following:

• Oregon Trail Card

• Oregon Health Plan (OHP)

• WIC - eWIC Card

• Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

The aquarium has made numerous moves in recent years towards being more accessible, part of a greater trend on the Oregon coast.

“This discount is another effort towards inclusivity and accessibility, we remain committed to sharing our unique and engaging experience for all.” said the aquarium's President/CEO Carrie Lewis.

The discounted tickets can only be purchased in person at the Oregon Coast Aquarium and cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. You can see more about the Aquarium’s active discounts at aquarium.org/discounts.

Also happening at the aquarium one more weekend is the Sea of Lights, coming up December 20 and 21 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Santa will be present to pose for photos and listen to wishes this coming weekend, and the Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble performs on Friday, Dec. 20.

Sea of Lights is a long-running family-friendly event that's been going for decades, allowing you to cruise through the galleries and exhibits with a completely different slant. It's where thousands of twinkling bulbs create an immense construct of various colors and shapes. Pathways between sections of the aquarium become dreamscapes and the sections themselves become absolutely dreamy.

Aquarium members can attend at no cost, while general admission tickets are priced at $10 per person or free with same-day paid admission. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.

Oregon Coast Aquarium is consistently ranked as one of the top 10 aquariums in the U.S., providing visitors with opportunities to connect with 15,000 animals spanning 300 different species. It is located at 2820 S.E. Ferry Slip Rd., Newport, OR. aquarium.org, 541-867-3474.
