North Oregon Coast Town Launches Tourism Stimulus
Program
(Seaside,
Oregon) - The City of Seaside is launching a special Tourism Stimulus
Program April 15 through June 15, in the hopes of coaxing more people
to town and more “heads in beds,” as the saying goes regarding
tourists and hotel rooms.
Seaside Director of Tourism Mikaela Norval said the goal
of the program is to drive incremental traffic and overnight stays to
Seaside by taking advantage of the current economic situation to deliver
“high value” vacation and leisure getaway experiences. It
must also be done in a way that does not cheapen Seaside and markets the
city as a whole.
Young professionals, empty nesters and retired people are
targeted as those who could make maximum use of the enhanced opportunities
to visit the beach. The Tourism Advisory Committee received an additional
$50,000.00 in funds from the Seaside City Council for marketing and advertising.
These funds will be used for a nine-week radio campaign in the Portland
market and e-newsletters in the Seattle market.
“This
is an interesting time in our economic history and I feel we are very
fortunate to have such an insightful City Council” said Norval.
“There are several schools of thought when it comes to advertising
through the hard times and we are choosing to capitalize on the fact that
travel trends show people are staying closer to home. Keeping this in
mind, Seaside is in a great position to attract visitors from two of the
larger metropolitan areas on the west coast, Seattle and Portland –
we’re close to home.”
Seaside’s tourism based businesses are encouraged
to participate in the program by setting up a Hot Deals account through
the Seaside Chamber of Commerce.
“We are glad to team-up with the City’s Tourism
department and local businesses to promote Seaside,” said Al Smiles,
Seaside Chamber of Commerce Director. “This is a time to join forces
and work together for the good of all of Seaside and that is why we are
opening our Hot Deals Program to any tourism related business in Seaside
regardless of whether they are a Chamber member or not. All they have
to do is contact the Chamber at 503.738.6391 to get set-up. The Hot Deals
will then be copied and placed in the Visitors Bureau’s website
www.SeasideOR.com.”
All
offers are under complete control of the individual business management,
subject to availability, some restrictions apply. All advertising will
drive consumers to the Visitors Bureau website where the Hot Deal offers
will be posted giving the value conscience consumer access to all special
values offered through out the City.
