Two Unique Oregon Coast Concerts This Week in Lincoln City and Cannon Beach Published 04/22/2015 (Oregon Coast) – Two intriguing concerts will be in two different sectors of the Oregon coast this week. One happens in Cannon Beach and the other in Lincoln City – and both present some fascinating takes on jazz. In Cannon Beach, April 25 brings something unique to the Coaster Theater. Spanish guitar meets modern American piano. New meets old. Classical meets jazz. From Claude Bolling to Antonio Lauro, Gershwin to Manuel de Falla, the eclectic Goldsmith/Rizzo guitar and piano duo continues its two-woman mission to create unforgettable encounters with genre-transcending music for fun-loving listeners. ` Guitarist Pamela Goldsmith and pianist Rhonda Rizzo perform a mixture of classical and new music and have appeared together at the Umpqua Community College Concert Series, Linfield College, The Old Church, Water Music Festival, Montinore Estate Vineyards, and more. Goldsmith is active in the Pacific Northwest as both a solo classical guitarist and collaborative performer. As an educator, she is adjunct guitar professor for Linfield College and maintains a private studio in Portland. Rizzo has crafted a career as a pianist and a writer. Their joint recording of “Suite for Piano and Guitar” by Oregon composer Jason Heald appears on two CD’s: A Spin on It, and Collage. The Goldsmith/Rizzo Duo is dedicated to bringing great music to everyone and to “unstuffing” classical music. Saturday, April 25t at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices: $15-$20. Spring has sprung at the Lincoln City Cultural Center, both outside on the grounds and inside the auditorium. On Tuesday, April 28, the LCCC will host a concert by Emily Asher's Garden Party, a versatile musical ensemble led by Asher's tenacious trombone and sweet vocals. The show will begin at 7 pm at the auditorium, 540 NE Hwy. 101 in Lincoln City. Called "red hot" and "very exciting" by the Wall Street Journal, this band of all-stars from New York City's vibrant early jazz scene performs coast to coast in the finest jazz clubs to the busiest swing dance halls. Drawing on the repertoire of Louis Armstrong's enchanting Hot Fives and Duke Ellington's sophisticated melodies to the funky and soulful music of New Orleans brass bands, and Hoagy Carmichael's masterpieces, Garden Party delights audiences of all ages and musical tastes.
