(Seaview, Washington) – Just as the Oregon coastline begins its scouring of beaches with the SOLVE Oregon Spring Cleanup (starting today), the Washington coast will put on its work gloves and get moving there. It's an important event that unites volunteers in a shared mission to protect and preserve Washington's stunning coastline.
This year's cleanup spans 10 state parks, including Cape Disappointment, Fort Flagler, Fort Townsend, Fort Worden, Grayland Beach, Mystery Bay, Ocean City, Pacific Beach, Shine Tidelands, and Twin Harbors.
“State Parks collaborates with Washington CoastSavers to organize three beach cleanup events annually,” WSP said. “The need for volunteers remains high. In 2024 alone, 2,339 volunteers removed an astonishing 159,431 pounds of marine and firework debris from Washington’s beaches - that’s the equivalent weight of approximately 13 adult orca whales. Of that total, 636 volunteers and 16,193 pounds of debris came from the Washington Coast Cleanup.”

To further the impact, State Parks collaborates with organizations such as the Grassroots Garbage Gang, Port Townsend Marine Science Center, and Surfrider Foundation to encourage volunteer engagement.
Volunteers participating in the cleanup at any Washington state park can check in at the following designated locations:
Long Beach Area at Bolstad Ocean Beach Approach (OBA) and Seaview OBA;
Central Washington Coast at Ocean City OBA, Chance A La Mer OBA, and Bonge Ave OBA; Eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca at Shine Tidelands; Chimacum Corner Farmstand for Fort Flagler and Mystery Bay; and the Port Townsend Marine Science Center for Fort Townsend and Fort Worden.
Participants should come prepared for unpredictable weather, wear sturdy shoes, and bring a packed lunch with plenty of water. Supplies for debris collection will be provided at check-in, though bringing reusable gloves is encouraged. Check-in stations will also double as drop-off sites for collected marine debris.
Registration is now open for the annual SOLVE Oregon Spring Cleanup happening all over the state, running from April 12 to 22, 2025. There are more than 100 events are already scheduled: SOLVE is asking for volunteers. Go to the SOLVE website and get involved. Cleanup and restoration projects are happening across Portland, Southwest Washington, the entire Oregon coast - from Astoria to Brookings - the Willamette National Forest, Southern Oregon (including Medford), and all the way to Baker City in Eastern Oregon.
Oregon's Spring Cleanup has the main event on Saturday, April 19, but some portions have already begun as of Saturday, April 12. It takes place all over the state now – not just the Oregon coastline.
On the 19th, there are now seven hubs stocked with event materials for groups of up to 20 volunteers. These hubs - located at Cape Lookout, Fort Stevens, Port Orford Heads, South Beach, Sunset Bay (state parks), Heart of Cartm in Nehalem, and Washed Ashore in Bandon - help reduce the use of single-use plastics in these areas.
