Wine Tasting Fills Afternoons of Central Oregon Coast Town Published 08/08/2010
(Yachats, Oregon) - The Wine Place in Yachats is celebrating all the pleasure of summer with a full schedule of free wine tasting events during the month of August. Weather permitting, outside seating is available on the cozy deck. All events take place on Saturday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and they are free. August 14. David Hill Winery. The land where David Hill winery is located was originally homesteaded in 1883. The house originally built then is now is home to the tasting room. The farm is 140 acres, of which 40 acres are planted with some of the oldest vines in the state. Meet winemaker David Bull at this tasting and enjoy David Hill wines plus the winemaker’s own label “Zimri Cellars.”
August 21. Ninkasi Brewing Company. There is a saying in the wine industry: “it takes a lot of beer to make good wine.” The Wine Place honors beer on this date, welcoming Marty Ochs, Ninkasi’s official “Beer Stalker.” Ninkasi, named for a goddess of fermentation, believes that beer is an important and valued part of civilization. This tasting will feature four brews including Total Domination IPA and Radiant Ale. August 28. Panther Creek Cellars and Silvan Ridge Wineries. Panther Creek Cellars in McMinnville has been producing ultra-premium Pinot Noir since 1986. Robert Parker of The Wine Advocate says, “Panther Creek has established itself as one of the most consistent, high quality Oregon wineries.” Silvan Ridge opened in 1979 and now produces 25,000 cases annually. Both of these wineries are now owned by the Chambers Family. Meet Elizabeth (Liz) Chambers at this special tasting. Liz is an active supporter of the Oregon wine industry through her activities with the Oregon Wine Board, Oregon Winegrowers Association, and as a member of the Society for Wine Educators. This is a tasting which will include something for every palate and budget.
The Wine Place is located on Highway 101 at the corner of Fourth Street. During August, the shop is open daily, 11 am – 6 pm or longer and other times by chance. Parking is available in the back.
