Yachats Brings Summer Solstice Music Party to Central Oregon Coast

(Yachats, Oregon) - Summer Solstice arrives in the central Oregon coast with a pleasant bang. And a boom – from the drums. Alongside that is the rumble of bass, squealing guitar, people dancing aplenty and lots of food.

All of it in Yachats on June 20, as the little Oregon coast town presents the Summer Solstice Music Party with free live music and popcorn.

It happens 1 p.m. - 5 p.m., at the Yachats Commons Pavilion. Food and beverages, including beer, provided by the Drift Inn, will be available for purchase. Bring a lawn chair and your dancing shoes.

The summer solstice is a worldwide event (at least above the equator): the longest day of the year is one thing the entire northern half of the planet can agree on. The sun reaches its farthest north position in relation to the planet, and it ushers in full summer. Festivities include gathering together, eating, drinking, singing and dancing. Sounds like a party.

Yacahts will be no different. There's a day thick with fun and music with performances by Barbara Lee and Franki T, The June Rushing Quartet, and Weird Science Boyz. Sound will be provided by Sasquatch Sound.

Barbara Lee Turrill, Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist, has performed solo and in bands for over 35 years Barbara played for 10 years with Rick Bartow and The Backseat Drivers and recently with The Dalbey Gang. Her duo, Barbara Lee & Franki T, features Franki Trujillo- Dalbey on bass. “Southbound Door,” her recent CD, is a truly amazing collection of original songs written over the past 50 years. Her music is genuine, award-winning, lovingly crafted and unforgettable.

Franki Trujillo-Dalbey has been playing music since she was a teenager. She is the bass player for The Dalbey Gang and is the other half of the duo Barbara Lee and Franki T.

Singer-songwriters June Rushing and guitarist husband Joren are celebrating 25 years of playing music on the Oregon Coast. This will be their first post pandemic performance. Rounding out the quartet is pianist Steve Burkle and multi-instrumentalist Robin Remaily. The group performs a wide variety of styles and songs from Patsy Cline and Marty Robbins to the Beatles and the Grateful Dead with style, passion, skill and a whole lot of heart.

Weird Science Boyz is an 80's Power Trio Guitar, Bass, Drums, vocals. You can't stand still at a Weird Science Boyz show. Weird Science Boyz are Kevin Strever on vocals and guitar, Ronnie Jay Pirrello, vocals and bass, and Richard Robitaille drums.

The band presents a high-energy, dance-oriented costumed show that showcases their infectious love for the songs of the ‘80s. There is never a dull moment as the band plays song after song, barely stopping to catch a breath.

Prepare for socially distant dancing.

The 2021 Summer Solstice Shuffle is a Polly Plumb Productions event. Polly Plumb Productions is a tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization that supports and promotes music and dance performances and art exhibitions in the Yachats area.

PPP supports the Yachats Banner Project and produces the annual Yachats Celtic Music Festival. Visit our website www.pollyplumb.org. You can sign up for the Polly Plumb newsletter. Check out Polly Plumb on Facebook.

This party will follow the most current guidelines for social distancing announced by the Lincoln County Health Department. Organizer Polly Plumb Productions anticipates the event will be optional "mask-free" for vaccinated attendees. The bands will be socially distanced within the pavilion to protect the musicians. Attendees are welcome to listen and dance in the grassy areas around the pavilion and on the asphalt parking lot adjacent to the pavilion. MORE PHOTOS BELOW
