Throughout the year, playground equipment and these swingsets sit on Seaside's beach, awaiting all those with kids or even their own inner child. However, during winters the swings are sometimes removed, likely to keep them getting damaged during storms.

At sunset, these simplest of objects can take on new shapes and ideas in their surroundings. Playground equipment in the distance brings a stark reminder of humankind's presence in an otherwise pristine, natural moment captured in the camera, while adding an interesting compositional element as well.

Set amid moody clouds or silhouetted against a sunset they become something different. In the last photograph, the post-dusk shades of a chilly winter night make the thing look especially alone on the beach, not to mention the sands look a tad Mars-like. You can see how the swings have been removed. Indeed, it looks as if a storm brews on those waves.
