Nye
Beach Celebrates Valentine's Day, Seafood & Wine Festival
(Newport,
Oregon) – Newport’s Nye
Beach is celebrating Valentine’s
Day in its own way, and opening up its amenities and services
to visitors coming to the Newport
Seafood & Wine Festival (Feb. 24 – 26). This charming
neighborhood - flanked by Newport’s two lighthouses –
is adding more dimensions to this unusually festive time on the
Central Coast.
The fun happens within what area businesses are
calling “Valentine’s Week,” since Valentine’s
Day falls on a Tuesday. It begins on Saturday, February 11, with
a smattering of celebrations.
On February
11, the arty, quaint little shop, The Cottage Door at Nye Beach,
will hold a special mini-party with hot cider, chocolate kisses
and a “red sale” where anything that’s red is
20 percent off. The Cottage Door at Nye Beach sells a variety of
coast-style tidbits, such as apparel, books, lamps, tabletop décor
and art goods. 732 NW Beach Dr., Newport. (541) 574-7706. www.newportcottagedoor.com.
Blu
Cork Wine Bar has a dual celebration on Saturday, February 11,
with a show by Corvallis’ “acoustic goddess of fun,”
Beth Willis.
The evening is also a tribute to “Losers in Love,” with
Blu Cork encouraging singles as well as couples to enjoy tables
strewn with rose petals, special tapas dishes and champagne. “Valentine’s
Day isn’t just for lovers,” says co-owner Deb Trusty.
“On this night, we pay tribute to those going solo as well.”
Willis begins at 7:30 p.m. Cost is free. 613 SW
Third Street, Newport. 541-265-2257.
The ancient-looking Grand Victorian Bed & Breakfast
is offering a special romance rate for the month of February. Guests
stay for 20 percent off for the entire month – if they stay
two or more nights (except during the Seafood & Wine Festival).
However, the
Grand Victorian is providing free designated driver services to
and from the Seafood
& Wine Festival.
The Grand Victorian will have a new, large room
with a vintage sun porch open on February 10.
Many rooms at
Grand Victorian have an ocean view, and the B&B features home-cooked
meals in the morning. 105 NW Coast Street, Newport. 503-508-4820.
