Oregon Coast Brewpub Wins Big at American Beer Fest

(Pacific City, Oregon) – Pacific City’s Pelican Pub & Brewery won top honors over this month at the 26th annual Great American Beer Festival (GABF) - receiving three highly sought-after medals: Gold for Doryman’s Dark Ale in the American-Style Brown Ale category, Gold for MacPelican’s Wee Heavy in the Strong Scotch Ale category, and Silver for Kiwanda Cream Ale in the Golden Ale category.

The Pelican Pub & Brewery has won 21 medals at the GABF in the past 10 years. In 2000 and 2005 the Pelican Pub & Brewery was named “Small Brewpub of the Year,” and in 2006, “Large Brewpub of the Year.” Steady growth in beer sales and production has pushed the Pelican Pub & Brewery into the larger category.
“The Great American Beer Festival is the biggest beer competition in the world,” said Darron Welch, Head Brewer at the Pelican Pub & Brewery. “The level of competition is intense and the quality of the beer is world-class. I’m thrilled with our performance this year!”

The Great American Beer Festival is essentially the national championships of beer - it is the world’s largest and most prestigious beer competition. Over 100 professional beer judges from around the globe spent three days evaluating 2,793 beers entered by 473 domestic breweries - making this year’s festival the most competitive yet. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals were awarded in 75 beer-style categories.
