Oregon Coast Travel Site Goes Wireless - Provides
Lodging Reports
|
You can now find coastal restaurants on mobile devices (pictured
here: Embarcadero, Newport) |
(Manzanita, Oregon) - For those travelers heading to Oregon’s
coast, Manzanita-based travel website Oregon
Coast Beach Connection (www.beachconnection.net) will be providing
some important and highly relevant information this summer, with some
unusual, high-tech angles.
In the busy, frenetic weekends of July and August, the
daily travel news site will provide lodging availability updates for last
minute visitors, and has just launched lodging and dining listings that
are available on PDA’s and other wireless devices.
Arch
Cape Property Services.
Dozens of homes in that dreamy,
rugged stretch between Cannon Beach and Manzanita known as Arch
Cape. Oceanfront and ocean view , or just a short walk from the
sea.
All homes are immaculate and smoke free; some pet friendly (with
a fee). Some with broadband, indoor or outdoor hot tubs, fireplaces,
decks, and fire pits or barbecues. Call about tempting winter specials
that go until March (not valid holidays, however). www.archcaperentals.com

For procrastinators, finding lodging on the Oregon coast
during those high-density weekends can be tough, if not impossible without
reservations. Every week, like last summer, Oregon
Coast Beach Connection (www.beachconnection.net) provides lodging
availability updates. The site contacts some 300 lodgings up and down
the upper half of Oregon’s coast, from Florence to Astoria, and
receives information on any openings they still may have for the weekend.
The reports go live by Thursday mornings just before that weekend.
|
Stunning vacation rentals like Turk's Lodgings, just s. of Cannon
Beach, will be available on wireless devices and may show up on the
site's weekly lodging availability reports |
Oregon Coast Beach Connection has already begun its lodging
reports for the summer, allowing those who haven’t made reservations
a chance to still find a room or a vacation rental on the beaches. They
will happen every week until Labor Day weekend.
On weekends like this one, coming right in the middle of
a series of heat waves, the Oregon coast is the only respite from the
heat for many. These reports will especially come in handy for those tourists
to the region who are looking to cool off, but haven’t thought about
reserving in advance because of a last-minute decision to make a run for
the beaches.

Northwest favorites, including decadent Sunday buffet. Rooms range

The lodging availability updates will cover towns like
Florence, Yachats, Newport, Depoe Bay, Lincoln City, Neskowin, Pacific
City, Tillamook, Manzanita, Cannon Beach, Seaside, Gearhart and Astoria
– and everything in between.
Oregon Coast Beach Connection has gone hi-tech in an interesting
way, with mobile lodging and dining listings that allow visitors to look
up Oregon coast places to stay or eat on a handheld device, like blackberry,
PDA or cell phone with net access.
|
The Tides by the Sea, Seaside |
Go to your handheld or mobile device and punch in www.beachconnection.net/mobile.
This will allow those already on the coast easy access
to what could be life-saving information: especially if you’ve got
hungry or cranky kidlets in tow, and you’re looking for a place
to stay or food to stuff in their screaming mouths.
The mobile service is also perfect for those using their
handheld devices to look for coastal lodging and dining while still inland,
in their hometowns.
“This is going to be very interesting and cutting
edge,” said Oregon Coast Beach Connection editor Andre’ Hagestedt.
“It’s going to provide a service that will prove invaluable
someday.”
|
Dining is exceptionally fun at Fultano's in Cannon Beach |
Wireless
access is generally pretty good inside most coastal towns, although the
deserted areas between them are usually quite dead. Rockaway Beach is
one town with frequent dead spots. “You’ll have trouble on
the east side of 101,” Hagestedt said. “But everyone who lives
in the area knows that once you walk to the other side, reception is usually
pretty good in Rockaway. But you’ll get nothing in between the little
towns, like those long stretches between Waldport and Newport, Waldport
to Yachats, Yachats to Florence, or between Manzanita and Cannon Beach,
and so on. A good rule of thumb: use your wireless or cellular devices
inside the towns.”

updates.
Slowly emerging on the site are the Complete Oregon Coast
Guides, with descriptions of every single beach access and natural attraction
on about 180 miles of Oregon coast. So far, the complete guides to the
Cannon Beach and Lincoln City areas have been published. There will be
extensive guides for the towns and regions of Astoria, Seaside, Manzanita/Rockaway,
Tillamook Bay, Three Capes Loop, Inland 101, Depoe Bay, Newport, Waldport,
