More Gorgeous Weather for Oregon Coast, Portland Published 11/03/2010 (Oregon Coast) - Who hasnt been loving this unusual run of spring-in-November weather? And there’s about another day of it ahead, and another perfect excuse to play hooky from work so you can head to the beach (above: fall colors explode under these skies in SW Portland). Portland has been boasting temperatures close to 70 degrees – almost a record – as has been most of the rest of Oregon. Stunning skies and wild waves in Depoe Bay On the Oregon coast, it's been shining sun and blue skies, while the temperature has dipped down a bit, with Newport reporting in around 60 degrees most of Wednesday. Astoria hit a November record high of 73 degrees, however. Monday and Tuesday were also ecstasy-inducing weather conditions, with a monster high surf along the beaches that kick-started a massive surfing contest in Lincoln City. Those conditions have since dissipated, and there are currently no watches or warnings for the surf, although swells can still be dramatic in places.
In Portland, all these nearly sweltering conditions (for November, anyway) were accompanied by a paradoxically heavy wind. Power briefly cut out in southwest Portland and Beaverton in the middle of the night, early Wednesday morning. For the Oregon coast, there’s still another day of fun in the sun. Wednesday is expected to keep the light winds, although Newport is currently down into the upper 50’s. For tonight, the Weather Channel is predicting similarly lovely conditions.
“Mostly clear early followed by mostly cloudy skies overnight,” the Weather Channel said. “Areas of dense fog developing. Low 51F. Winds light and variable.” Thursday will bring some dense fog for a while, especially to the Newport area. “Partly cloudy skies in the morning will give way to partly cloudy or mostly cloudy skies during the afternoon,” the Weather Channel said. “High near 60 degrees. Winds light and variable.” The Weather Channel added for the north coast, there will be more sun in the morning, giving way to partly cloudy skies later in the day. Thursday night will see more clouds moving in, and on Friday the coast will start getting some showers, with highs in the 50’s. On Saturday, more showers and bigger winds will start hitting the beaches – perhaps creating some excellent storm watching conditions.
For Portland, the Weather Channel predicts some incoming clouds today as well as more gusty winds. Thursday will boast partly cloudy skies and highs around a balmy 65. By Friday, just as at the coast, clouds will kick in and highs will be in the upper 50’s. On Saturday, showers will hit the Portland area.
