Ghosts, Pirates to Haunt Oregon Coast Aquarium

Oregon) - Every year at this time the Oregon Coast Aquarium closes its
doors early and quietly mutates into something very strange. The lovely
wooded grounds are transformed into an ominous landscape with haunted
caves and foggy courtyards summoning all manner of ghosts, ghouls and
creepy characters to partake in its annual soiree of the sinister. The
Aquarium will close at 4 p.m. and reopen to present the elaborate annual
Halloween Party, Creatures of the Night, Saturday, October 27, from 7
to 9 p.m.

Creatures of the Night offers a safe environment for a fun family celebration featuring activities for all age groups. Each area will be marked with signs designating “happy faces” for younger children and “scary faces” for the more fearless. Young children will find interactive games and activities in the main indoor galleries. For older children there are spooky haunts lurking in the outdoor caves and creatures hiding in the shadows of the nature trail.
This year’s theme, “Fractured Fairy Tales” will feature a “Psycho Circus” outdoors where visitors will enter the main lobby. Little Red Riding Hood and the big bad wolf will greet visitors in the main lobby. As they make their way into the indoor galleries they will find Peter Pan and friends, pirates and a tree house. Things get creepier as visitors move outdoors, encountering “Twisted Wizard of Oz” characters on the nature trail and “ Haunted Caves ” oozing with creepy jellies, sea witches and a ghostly jail. Passages of the Deep will feature scary sea monsters, with ghastly characters crawling around underwater inside the exhibits.

Activities:
- Andre’Hagestedt, editor of BeachConnection.net, will tell chilling tales about “Ghosts of the Coast” in the Wolf-eel Café from 7:30 – 8:30. The talk will feature scary images of ghosts on Oregon coast beaches that will appear to float in the air. Hagestedt will cover such legends and subjects as UFO sightings, haunted lighthouses, local legends of mystical spots, weird coastal science and a host of ghost tales and strange tales of history all over the region. - Games and activities throughout the evening. Eric Nepom with the Pirate Improv Theatre Show will perform in the Qwest Theatre, sponsored by Marine Discovery Tours.

Costumed visitors may have a photo taken in the lobby for $2. A costume
contest with winners announced in the lobby at 8:45 (need not be present
to win). Candy distribution as visitors leave.
Admission is substantially reduced for the event with Aquarium members entering free. Nonmembers who donate a new, unwrapped toy or two items of non-perishable food items for Lincoln County Food Share or pet food for Lincoln County Animal Shelter will enter free. All other adults pay $2 and kids $1.
