Central Oregon Coast Hosts Seafood Contest,
Culinary Classes
(Lincoln
City) - It's a month that brings a seafood and chowder contest and a variety
of culinary classes to the central Oregon coast resort town of Lincoln
City.
The 4th Annual Seafood and Chowder Cook-Off comes to town
on Saturday, November 8, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. This year’s competition
will be a green event, held at the Pacific Coast Center for Culinary Arts
in Lincoln City, at 801 SW Hwy 101, on the fourth floor.
The Lincoln City Visitors Center is expecting restaurants
from as far away as Timberline Lodge. Also competing will be Surftides,
the B’nai B’rith Camp, Parrilla Grill from Bend, Chinook Winds
Casino Resort, Pelican Pub and Brewery from Pacific City, Mi Famiglia
from Oregon City, Ice Axe Grill from Timberline, Best Western Agate Beach
Inn (Newport) and the Blackfish Café. Beer and wine will also be
featured.
The competition
will include chefs from throughout Oregon competing to take home one of
three titles: "Best Clam Chowder" and "Best Signature Seafood
Dish" which will be judged by a panel of pros; and "People’s
Choice," in which the public will make the final call.
All festival guests may sample the chowder for free, buy
single servings of their favorite chowder or a family-sized portion to
take home for dinner. The cost at the door is just $5, free for kids 12
and under. All proceeds from chowder sales go to the Culinary Program
at Taft High School.
Judging begins at noon. There will be live cooking demonstrations
all day, live music and free tastings of chowder.
For further information on the event contact the Lincoln
City Visitor & Convention Bureau at 800-452-2151.
The
Pacific Coast Center for Culinary Arts (PCCCA) has a new Executive Chef:
Sharon Wiest has now taken the helm of the fine foods facility.
“I am in the process of developing diverse hands-on
and demonstration style classes, all focusing on fresh and local products
whenever possible,” said Wiest.
The center’s schedule for November has been released.
