(Oregon Coast) – The worst of the storm set to hit the Oregon coast hasn’t even arrived yet, but already power is out in various parts of the Oregon coast, wind gusts have caused sizable damage, and flooding is creating problems.
Parts of the region have already been hit by gusts 80 to 100 mph – the worst clocked in at Cape Meares at 109. Gusts and sustained winds knocked out power periodically in Seaside, Manzanita, Lincoln City and Depoe Bay, but still languishing without power are Yachats, Waldport and Cannon Beach.

However, as of late Sunday, all of Clatsop County is without power. This includes Cannon Beach, Seaside and Astoria.

Winds and soaked ground knocked down trees and power poles around the region, including one set of power lines in Gearhart that sparked on the ground for a while.
Earlier on Sunday evening, BeachConnection.net’s Jenny Maxwell reported the power had been flickering, and her cable internet access was down.
The Brown family of Waldport told BeachConnection.net that they were told by power officials their power may be out as long as two days.
In Astoria, a large tree fell down near a school, blocking the road.

Another famous tree, the nation’s largest Sitka spruce, was torn off about halfway on Sunday. This major tourist attraction sat along Highway 26, near Seaside, and is 750 years old.

On the central coast, a large chunk of siding on one section of the Chinook Winds Casino was ripped off by high winds. Trees are reported downed in other parts of Lincoln City as well.
The worst hasn’t even hit yet, and now the state is bracing for floods.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood warning for much of the Oregon coast, from the Washington border down through to Tillamook. Tropical air will bring another major storm and more heavy rain through Monday night, pushing several rivers above flood stage. The Wilson River near Tillamook and the Nehalem River are being watched especially carefully.

The coast range is also expected to be hit hard with winds, with flood warnings as well. Both the shoreline and the coast range could get 4 inches to 8 inches of rain.

seas are happening in many parts of the coast, which has caused a high
surf warning. More gusts of up to 100 mph hour along with sustained winds
40 mph or more are expected along the coast Monday.
This is not a time to head to the coast to watch
the storm. Authorities around the coastal region are urging people to
not drive if they don’t have to and to stay indoors.
