| Newport never really received many problems, and is completely normal this week |
(Oregon Coast) – The central Oregon coast is mostly back up and running and back in business, while the north coast is still in the dark ages Wednesday afternoon. Phone service and power have been restored to most of the central coast, while the north coast is still out of power, running out of gasoline in some spots, and phone lines are still cut in most areas.

As of 3:20 p.m., Highway 26 to the coast is still closed in two places, thanks to debris near the 101 junction and a sinkhole about 38 miles west of Portland.
Qwest Communications said it was working on two fiber optic line cuts and estimated phone service could be restored to the north coast by Wednesday. It has since found a third cut. Astoria, Seaside and Cannon Beach are still not reachable from outside. Cell phone service is not available in most of those areas.

Phone lines in the Manzanita and Nehalem area are back, however. Brian Hines, owner of San Dune Inn in Manzanita, was able to call BeachConnection.net’s Portland office, and thanks to a generator, he was able to use his computer and send off some images.
“Still have no power,” Hines said.
Pacific Power has told him Manzanita may not have power for another week. “We’re last in line, I guess. Got our first Oregonian newspaper today since Sunday, and that’s really the first news from the outside we have had, except for the local rumor.”

In Lincoln City and Depoe Bay, things are almost back to normal. A1 Beach Rentals owner Karen Scrutton said people apparently have the wrong idea about Lincoln City after all the previous storm coverage, and what is still going on up north. She had one big cancellation at a rather large vacation home.
“We are open for biz in Lincoln City,” Scrutton said. “101 is in great shape. Power is now on in Lincoln City and most roads are clear. Please pass it on that the weekend will be dry and sunny. I think folks see all that flood damage in Tillamook and think it’s flooding in Lincoln City. No way.”
Astoria gas stations have run out of gas, but further south, there’s plenty of fuel. The Nehalem gas station is getting a steady stream of fuel supply and is in no danger of running out.

Power has been restored to Tillamook as well.
Qwest has said it believes most phone service will be up on the north coast sometime Wednesday. 9-1-1 service has been restored there, and some areas are able to call within their own city.
In
Depoe Bay, Trollers Lodge owner Peg Leoni had high praise for the Depoe
Bay fire department, which quickly responded to a power cable that snapped
and hit her motel’s road sign, shorting it out.
“They were here before I could even call them,” Leoni said. “They checked out every electrical thing in the vicinity, making sure there was no possibility of fire. All this after working 36 hours straight. They are all heroes. The sign appears to be toasted but that can be fixed. The electrical panel that burned can be replaced.
“P.U.D. was here within six hours of the line breaking and got our power back on. They are heroes too.”
