Oregon Coast Microbrewery Plans Full Spring
(Pacific
City, Oregon) - New beers, a festival of live music, summer games and
food, and various beer contests are on tap this season for Pacific City's
Pelican Pub & Brewery. The coastal microbrewery fills May and June
with the Fifth Annual Brewers Summer Games on June 21, the release of
two new brews, and appearances at several beer contests across the northwest.
The Pelican Pub & Brewery’s fifth annual Brewers Summer Games will take place on Saturday, June 21 in Pacific City, Oregon - from noon to 8 p.m. The festivities include live music, award-winning beer, root beer, food and an afternoon filled with amusing competition for both kids and brewer teams from Oregon and Washington.
While admission to the event is free, all proceeds raised from the event benefit two local charities: the Nestucca’s Booster Club and the Caring Cabin. Nestucca’s Boosters supports athletics and other extracurricular activities in local schools. Supported by the Children’s Cancer Association, Caring Cabin is a lakeside retreat near the Oregon Coast for families of critically ill children and those diagnosed with cancer.

At 12:30, each participating brewery will gather on the beach to battle it out in a series of eight events for the Grand Altitude Cup – the ultimate prize in brewing athletics. Teams are judged on time and style by a panel of three celebrity judges.
During a break in the main action the little ones take center stage during the Kids Root beer Games, which include a mini keg toss and the infamous 3-legged race. All kids are invited to participate.
Schedule of Events: Saturday, June 23 from noon to 8 p.m.
12 p.m. - Games Opens to the Public.
12:30 p.m. - Brewers Summer Games Begin. Keg Toss, Service with a Smile, Mash Relay, Cheap Beer Toss.

3 p.m. - Brewers Summer Games Resume: Hand Truck Race, Keg Sled Race, Yeast Toss, Dune to Surf Race.
At 5 p.m. the awards ceremony commences. Live music - still to be announced - happens from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

for more suds to be released from Pelican Pub & Brewery on May 23
and 24. That’s when their summer seasonal ales, Surfer’s Summer
Ale and Heiferweizen will debut.
The Summer Ales of England inspire this well-loved seasonal beer which has a brilliant gold color and features Glacier hops that give the ale a fruit, floral and herbal aroma. Golden Promise malt provides a toasted malt flavor that combines with a bread-like wheat character to give this beer a full-bodied, rounded malt aspect. Finishing smooth and clean, Surfer’s Summer Ale promises to be a refreshing treat.

“The Heiferweizen is a Tillamook County classic with its smooth and thirst quenching taste,” say Pub managers.
Yellow in color and somewhat hazy because it’s unfiltered, this wheat brew has a snappy but mellow flavor and finishes smooth and dry. Heiferweizen is fermented with Belgian-type yeast and lightly spiced with orange peel, coriander and cardamom to give it a light, delicious character which is both fruity and spicy.
The Pelican Pub can be found at the Zoo Brew at the Oregon Zoo in Portland on May 30, and more appearances will happen throughout the summer at various locations in the west coast.
The Pelican Pub and Brewery, located 22 miles south of Tillamook on the northern Oregon Coast. The oceanfront facility includes an outdoor patio and banquet room with unobstructed views of Cape Kiwanda and Haystack Rock.
