Quirky Oregon Coast Winery Announces Year's
Festivals
![](winery_out1.jpg) |
Nehalem Bay Winery |
(Nehalem, Oregon) – The deliriously delightful and
offbeat Nehalem Bay Winery, on the north Oregon coast, has announced its
lineup of festivals for the coming tourist season.
Nestled in the middle of bucolic farmland and small, Alpine-like
mountains, and with an architecture that smacks of Europe, it’s
not hard to imagine this vino hotspot is somewhere in France or wine-yielding
fields of southern Germany. But take a closer look at this elderly building
and it’s filled with a very American sense of humor and the goofy.
Eclectic, joyful drawings of Ken Keasey (a regular here later in life)
and other famous figures line the exterior, while the interior is a mish-mash
of wacky photos and people behind the tasting bar who joke with patrons.
There’s nothing snobby about this winery.
So it follows its summer and fall season is filled with
festivals that evoke a sense of family fun and rollicking good times,
while also being starkly unusual for a winery. Reggae, blues, bluegrass
and a diverse, even kooky festival of open-mic sets are coming up for
the year.

You’ll find the Nehalem Bay Winery along Highway
53, near Wheeler, one mile from the junction of Highway 101 and 53. 1-888-368-9463.

Monday, May 26: Memorial Weekend Blues Festival.
The annual celebration is a combination of music, luscious barbecue and
beverages – open to the whole family. This now-legendary festival
has featured such luminaries as Paul DeLay in the past, This year it features
Norman Sylvester, the Portland artist known as the “boogie cat”
for his infectious mix of soul, funk and gritty blues. Also on the bill
is the Astoria favorite Bond Street Blues.
Cover is $10. Food and drink are available for purchase.
