Coastal
Websites Debut On Oregon’s Internet Landscape
(Oregon
Coast) – There’s a different wind blowing on Oregon’s
coast, at least on the Internet. Two new websites have debuted recently,
featuring some interesting angles, while some other longtime stalwarts
have changed their look and approach.
The newest kid
on the block is the site for Cannon Beach Fultano’s Pizza
– a gourmet pizza spot hidden along a side street in the arty
little beach town. The site, www.Cbfultanos.com,
features a lot of the usual things you’d expect from a restaurant
website, such as menus and photos of the interior. But there’s
a couple secret links within the site, and a quaint page that explores
Cannon Beach and the surrounding area a bit.
One of the highlights
is a painting created by local artist Richard Gorsuch (who became
famous for painting Haystack Rock every day for a year). The artwork,
which hangs in Fultano’s, depicts a variety of archetypal
characters drifting in, out of and past the restaurant. There’s
a secret link on the painting to a page in the website that explains
the history of this creation.
Some of the
photos of the restaurant are interesting and a bit arty, and the
page that explores Cannon Beach
has a few slightly unusual features. Owner David Johnson will soon
add real time weather info to the site, from a weather station located
on the top of Fultano’s.
The other newbie
on the north Oregon coast is a truly original idea: www.registerlocally.com.
Manzanita resident Rachel Thompson has put together a real alternative
to the malls and corporate stores for those looking for something
very personal in a gift. Like the gift registries you find in big
name stores, Thompson took this idea and applied it to local businesses
on the north coast – with an emphasis on Earth friendly products.
Thompson explained
that she was inspired to create ResgisterLocally.com
when she attended a baby shower, and noticed the best and most interesting
gifts were from local stores. On the site is extensive info about
coastal wedding resources, and gift registries for local businesses
such as Nehalem Bay Winery, massages, and other surprises. This
gem is growing quickly.
Another
new creation is the redesign of Manzanita motel San Dune Inn’s
website, www.sanduneinn.com.
The site now features a brand new, sparkling look, new photos, and
an approach that shows off the property much more clearly.
Guido’s
Ristorante in Wheeler is in the planning stages of a brand new
website, which, according to one source, will feature a very silly
video game-like section where you can “whack” the employees
Mafioso-style, as well as other wacky ideas that fit with the goofy
sense of humor that permeates Guido’s. A Nehalem Bay cam on
the site is also in the works.
On the central
Oregon coast, Blu
Cork Wine Bar and Village
Market & Deli in Newport are working on a new website that
will feature both of them, which promises a deeper look behind-the-scenes,
including recipes of both businesses’ fine fare.
Oregon
Coast Beach Connection recently launched new features, such
as live news feeds (which can be seen on the home page), and which
Beach Connection has also made available to other web publishers
(at http://www.beachconnectio.net/addtosite.htm).
This has increasingly been taken advantage of, such as on San
Dune Inn’s site, Fultano’s,
and the links page at Zinger’s
Homemade Ice Cream in Seaside.
Beach Connection
also recently began its “news channels” for various
areas along the coast. The first to go live is the Cannon
Beach Travel and Entertainment News Channel, featuring only
travel news stories from the Cannon Beach area. There will soon
be news channels for Seaside, Nehalem Bay, Lower Tillamook County,
Lincoln City, Depoe Bay and Newport.
