Seaside Yuletide Celebration Calls on Oregon
Coast Businesses
(Seaside,
Oregon) - The Seaside Chamber of Commerce is accepting entry applications
for the annual Pacific Power Parade of Lights and Yuletide Celebration.
The parade will be held Friday, November 28th at 7 p.m. and follow a route
through downtown Seaside, ending in the Pocket Park on Broadway along
the west side of the Carousel Mall. The festivities will include the lighting
of the community Christmas tree, carol singing and refreshments.
Divisions for the parade are commercial/business, individual
and groups, churches and not-for-profit organizations. In addition to
the divisions, entries are designated by three categories; self-propelled,
towed and non-motorized/walkers.
"The
Pacific Power Holiday Parade of Lights is one of Seaside's great traditions,"
said Chamber President Russ Vandenberg. "It's a lively homegrown
event. It's lights, it's fun and Santa will be there to help us enjoy
the spirit of the holidays. We hope many of the local youth and civic
organizations will present entries."
Entries will be judged from the categories in all three
divisions based on Best Use of Lights, Best Spirit of the Season, Best
Children’s Entry, Best Animal Entry and Best Motorized Entry.
The Pacific Power Warm Lights of Christmas Residential
Lighting Contest is open to anyone living within the Seaside City Limits.
The three categories are Individual Home, Neighborhood and Business/Commercial.
Neighborhood entries are considered three or more homes.
This
year no entry forms are required to be considered for the contest. Judges
will be looking for winners throughout Seaside from December 5 through
December 10. Judging will be based on overall effect of decorations, creativity,
humor and use of lights.
Sheila Holden, Regional Community Manager of PacificCorp,
parent company of Pacific Power will be in Seaside to present the awards.
Holden talked about Yuletide: “This is such a fun occasion. Seaside
presents Yuletide with a great community enthusiasm that brings a return
to the warm traditions of the season. I am always happy to have something
to promote in my area that will bring people to the coast and I’m
always happy for an excuse to visit.”
Awards
to the winners will be presented at the Seaside Chamber of Commerce Yuletide
Open House. Individual Division Prizes are First Place, $200; Second Place,
$100 and Third Place $50. The neighborhood winner receives a family night
out at a local restaurant and Business/Commercial winners framed awards.
Entry forms for the parade are available from the
Seaside Chamber of Commerce, 7 N. Roosevelt or online by contacting www.seasidechamber.com.
Residences and business who want to be sure they are considered for the
lighting awards should call or email the and list their name and address
for the judging. Contact events@seasidechamber.com or call 503-738-6397.
There is no charge for entry in either event.
