Monthly
Art Walk Sparkles on North Oregon Coast
(Seaside,
Oregon) – Each first Saturday of the month, the Oregon coast town
of Seaside throws a large bash for art with the Seaside Art Walk. It’s
a collection of merchants and art galleries who wish to share the arts
with the public – and not just the visual arts. Some shops host
musicians performing live, and many provide refreshments and appetizers.
Each
art walk runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on those first Saturdays, with bundles
of tourists and locals wandering the streets of downtown Seaside, and
even one spot in neighboring Gearhart occasionally.
DIVE
INTO LUXURY, HISTORY AT THE TIDES
THE
TIDES BY THE SEA, Seaside. For over 80 years a favorite of Seaside
visitors. 51 oceanfront condos, individually owned and decorated.
Suites for couples, small apartments with fireplaces and kitchenettes,
one or two bed family units with fireplaces, kitchens and dining
rooms. Oceanview cottages sleep anywhere from two to eight, w/ two
bedrooms, some with lofts, fireplaces and kitchens. Heated outdoor
pool, enormous grounds w/ picnic tables - all at quiet southern
end of Seaside. 2316 Beach Drive. 800-548-2846. www.thetidesbythesea.com. |
The works
and artforms featured are always diverse and varied, although there is
often a theme to the event. The January Art Walk, among other things,
featured the debut of a local 12-year-old artist with exceptional talent.
The
February 3 Art Walk will have a special theme: “For the love of
Art and Kids!” Galleries will be featuring romance and love-themed
works.
The February event will also
be tying into the Seaside Heights Elementary School’s Bingo Night
Auction. Grade school children’s art will be on display in several
downtown businesses. Their artwork, along with donated pieces from local
artists, will be auctioned off to benefit the school’s Parent Teacher
Association (PTO). The final bidding for the auction is Friday, February
9 - during the school’s annual Bingo Night.
Seaside Art
Walk dates for 2007 are:
Tradewinds
Motel,
Rockaway Beach. All rooms at the Tradewinds Motel are immaculate
and have TV’s, VCR’s and in-room phones with data ports.
The oceanfronts all have a queen bed, a double hide-a-bed, kitchen,
cozy firelog fireplace and a private deck. Some oceanfront units
come with all those amenities but the kitchens. Both types sleep
up to four people. Others are appointed with a queen bed, small
fridge, and coffee maker – sizable for a two-person romantic
getaway, yet still perfect for those on a budget. There is an elaborate
oceanfront Jacuzzi suite that has two bedrooms, coming with a kitchen,
double hide-a-bed, fireplace and private deck, sleeping as many
as six. For those wanting bigger accommodations for family reunions
or large gatherings such as weddings, some rooms can connect to
create two-room and three-room suites. Some rooms are pet friendly.523
