Oregon Coast Resort Hotel Goes Under Knife Again
(Cannon
Beach, Oregon) - Exciting things are happening at the Surfsand Resort
in Cannon Beach, with another phase in its enormous renovation beginning.
Construction is underway on the Surfsand’s second phase, which will
add to the upscale Oregon coast resort and major tourist attraction another
56 luxurious rooms.
The renovation is expected to take 18 months.
Phase I saw the remodel of the nearly 30-year-old property
earlier this year, which included 50 first-class guest rooms in the beachfront
building and a refurbished lobby that showcases a beautiful art collection
featuring the work of local artist David Marshall.

A remodeled east wing will consist of 24 units, including
a large meeting space flanked by two king-sized suites. The ocean view
east wing can accommodate many types of groups and events, from corporate
gatherings, to business functions to wedding parties.
“The ocean view wing will offer the very ultimate for small corporate
groups and large family reunions,” said Ryan Snyder, president of
Martin Hospitality. “You can sleep up to 16 people. It doesn’t
have to be arranged this way, but can you imagine the fun?”
A brand
new weekend retreat building will be added to what is currently an empty
parking lot. This unit will consist of six two-bedroom suites, each with
an additional studio attached, also perfect for family reunions or “girl’s
weekend” getaways.
The new oceanfront building will have 17 oceanfront rooms;
some with private patios or decks, and all of the new buildings will utilize
the same soft, cool color palate found in the oceanfront building and
lobby. Interior designer Georgia Pope, of Hill Devine Design, has managed
to weave together pale greens and blues - the colors of the ocean -with
grounding earth tones such as brown and a coppery burnt sienna, all for
a comfortable and relaxing room experience. Each of the new rooms will
incorporate the same lavish details already found in the oceanfront rooms:
hardwood floors, granite countertops, large spa bathtubs, maple-encased
fireplaces and flat screen TVs. But the new rooms will include a wet bar
complete with sink, microwave and refrigerator for easy entertaining or
snacks.
Mike
Skidmore, designer and architect for both Phase I and Phase II, felt it
was important to make sure that the entire project was cohesive, with
results that created one seamless, inviting destination. “Phase
I was primarily a remodel of the existing property, while Phase II is
new construction,” said Skidmore. “But both had to reflect
the Northwest beach character that is so unique to this project, making
the Surfsand one of the finest resorts in the Northwest.”
