Lodging Specials
on the North Coast
North Oregon Coast hotels and other lodgings will
get gushy in the latter half of February. In fact, many of them
are great bargains during this time of year.
In
Wheeler, the stunning, charming Old Wheeler Hotel oozes romance
with a shimmering delirium. All rooms are bay view, and the place
is like stepping back in time. Plus, they’re running at winter
rates – along with the various little romantic treats they’re
offering. Weekends tend to be full, but weeknights are around $65.
The "Jacuzzi With a View" room is only $85. Also on tap:
flowers, champagne and Moonstruck Chocolates as part of their romance
package – added to any room for an extra $35. You can get
a dozen long-stem roses for $75, one rose in a vase for $25 or rose
petals strewn all over the bed. Hwy 101 and Gregory. www.oldwheelerhotel.com.

Nearby,
in Manzanita, you can bring your loved one and your little furry
one, as the quirky, delightful San Dune Inn is very pet friendly.
They, too, are running winter rates. So, while Valentine’s
Day falls on a Tuesday, you get the lovely mid-week rates of around
$60 per night (instead of $95 in summer). This wondrous little place
is just a few blocks from the beach, and a minute or two walk from
all the cool, magical stuff Manzanita offers. www.sanduneinn.com.

Crawl a few miles up the road to stay in a castle
– just a few miles south of Cannon Beach. The breathtaking
Arch Cape House overlooks the beaches of tiny, unincorporated Arch
Cape, and it’s here where they’re offering an interesting
set of packages coinciding with Valentine’s Day and big events
of the Seaside and Cannon Beach areas.
The week of
Valentine’s Day – February 10 through February 19 –
sees Arch Cape House offering special treats like six or 12 roses,
wine, champagne, sparking cider, chocolate truffles and a valentine’s
card with your own message for prices ranging from $5 to $36.
If you attend
certain area events and provide proof such as ticket stubs, you
get 20 percent off your stay.
This
special is good for the Cannon Beach Chamber Auction on February
25 (cost of admission to auction and cost for the benefit dinner),
any cooking classes at Cannon Beach EVOO Cooking School (877-436-EVOO),
the Midwinter Mystery Weekend throughout Cannon Beach on January
