North Oregon Coast Hosts Cutting Edge Barbershop Festival
(Seaside,
Oregon) – It’s the 24th Annual Barbershop Cabaret in the north
coast town of Seaside, and again, it will be a doozy.
This isn’t your grandpa’s barbershop show, either. There are modern versions of the genre that take it to the cutting edge, incorporating contemporary music stylings into this interesting web that mixes past with present.
Think of it as somewhere between handlebar moustaches and mohawks.

Shows will be held Friday and Saturday, January 18 – 19, at the Seaside Convention Center, at 415 1st Ave, Seaside, Oregon. The Cabaret features unique song stylings from International, National and District Competition Winners and the best quartets in the Pacific Northwest.
The Friday casual, club-style show is a warm, up-close, “get to know these guys” presentation. It will have you tappin’ your toes and smiling at the humor and charm of these barbershopers who love and live their craft.

Saturday will feature an impressive display of all of the quartets singing in harmony as well as individual quartet performances by 2007 International Seniors Champions, Friendly Advice, and the 2006 International Seniors Champions, Antique Gold.
The Evergreen District of Quartet Competitions includes groups from Alaska, Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Montana as well as British Columbia and Alberta, Canada.

Doug Barker, Event Coordinator for the Seaside Chamber and long time Cabaret Chairman, said there will be some new things to look for. “You’re really seeing and hearing the best in a cappella performances at a very personal level,” Barker said. “The new sound system we have at the Convention Center brings real clarity to these close harmonies. And these groups have fun singing. It’s an unbeatable show at an unbeatable price.”

the doors open at 6:00 p.m. The show begins at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $15
per person and $5 for students. Saturday the doors open at 6:30 p.m. and
the show begins at 7:30 p.m. Reserved seat tickets are $20 and in the
back section $17. Parking is free and adult beverages are available.
